Bell seeks $426 million hike in Pennsylvania rates

Consumers and a Philadelphia group vow to challenge Bell of Pennsylvania proposed rate increase that would raise a typical residential bill by about $6 monthly. The utility asked the Public Utility Commission to approve the largest state rate rise, with higher basic service charges, rental costs, installation and directory fees. Protesters warn the plan shifts costs to business users and could delay the decision for months during PUC hearings pending investigation.
