Delaware County settles for dog killed by park guard

Delaware County Council agreed to pay the Widener University cross country coach Harry Durney and his daughter 1000 to settle the death of their champion rottweiler Rommel shot by a Rose Tree Park guard in 1980. Durney said the dog never threatened the guard, who fired six shots. The guard claimed self defense as the dog growled and approached. District Attorney Hazel declined charges, and Mayer remains employed. The settlement finances a new dog to replace Rommel.
