Haig vows US will protect planes on legitimate missions
Secretary of State Haig said the United States will take necessary measures to defend its aircraft on legitimate missions from Libyan and North Korean attacks. He noted two Libyan warplanes downed after provocations and a North Korean missile near a US SR-71, saying flights will continue under past procedures and protect pilots. He cited El Salvador guerrillas, Poland's improved stance, and Angola's invasion context, defending last week’s Gulf of Sidra operations and noting no apologies for the 6th Fleet exercises.
