Polygamy patriarch Ervil LeBaron found dead in prison
Ervil LeBaron, famed polygamy leader behind the killings of rival leaders, was found dead in a maximum security Utah prison cell. Detectives cited notes suggesting death by self-infliction and possible prior death pact with a woman. LeBaron, 56, led a nomadic polygamist group with extensive killings and convictions, including the 1980 life sentence for masterminding the slaying of Rulon Allred in 1977. He faced multiple legal actions across the United States and Mexico related to intra sect power struggles.
