Taiwan pilot defects to mainland China in first such incident in 20 years
Peking reports Taiwan air force major Huang Zhicheng defected in a U.S.-made F-5 jet during a training flight over the Taiwan Straits. Co-pilot Lt Hsu Chiuing bailed out and was rescued near a South China coast island. Xinhua says navigational and radio trouble followed and Taiwan denies details. Veteran observers note no similar defection since the 1950s.
