Karen Frances Ulane a 12 year Eastern Airlines pilot and Army veteran filed a $4 million discrimination suit in US District Court alleging sex and gender identity based dismissal after undergoing a sex change operation at University of Chicago Hospital in 1980. The suit seeks reinstatement with back pay and claims morale concerns led to termination.
DuPont gained the lead in the three way bid for Conoco Inc as Mobil raised its offer to 115 a share and DuPont increased its cash portion to 98 per share to win stockholders. Seagram remained in the race with a 92 a share bid and a 4.1 billion package, while antitrust clearance from the Justice Department cleared DuPont to begin buying Conoco stock.
