Deseg plan resubmitted Southeast to close two schools

Southeast Delco officials move to close Studevan and Pusey elementary schools by year end under state recommendations. The plan retools Studevan into a magnet for special education and mainstreams pupils, affecting about 300 students. The Pusey site, previously a proposed magnet, remains to be closed as part of the district’s desegregation efforts.

Mayor misses last day as city hall empties for transition

Chester mayor John H. Nacrelli fails to appear on his final day in office as aides report he is in Philadelphia for tests. Four teens crawl for Dimes Walk a Thon at Penn State

Four Upper Darby teens led by Steve Horan will crawl on all fours for the March of Dimes Walk A Thon at Penn State, aiming to cover 14 miles in 11 hours. Sponsors back the pace as milestones are tracked through Checkpoints 1 2 and 3. The effort supports birth defect research and assistance.

Chester residents protest at Boyd Art Theater over adult films

About 20 women and children demonstrated Friday in front of the Boyd Art theater at 8th and Welsh Streets to press for family films. Organizer Mrs. De Twyman formed the Concerned Parents Organization to seek weekend family showings, while fundraising was planned at the William Penn Homes community building at noon today with hot dogs and drinks. The Boyd is the city’s only operating movie house. Marcus Hook columns note Air Products and Chemicals signed a five year lease for the former highway garage at 7th Street and Maiden Lane to support a new pilot plant. the plant is planned to produce about 4 million cubic feet per day of high BTU gas for Philadelphia Electric Co. Joint Alliance groups in Marple will host a Candidates’ Night at 8 p.m. Monday in Russell School.
