Car theft ring tied to junkyard in Marcus Hook

Police are probing an auto theft operation centered at Clark Turner junk yard 30 E. 10th St. in Marcus Hook. Three men were arrested after a raid that recovered parts from at least a dozen stolen cars, many traced to Philadelphia and eastern Delaware County.

Closings Slated for Good Friday

In observance of Good Friday county offices banks schools and many businesses including Philadelphia Electric Co and Bell of Pennsylvania offices will be closed Friday. Upper Darby and Chester administration offices and the Chamber of Commerce will also be closed. State and federal offices will be open along with post offices and liquor stores. Schools closed for spring vacation.

Voter registration deadline near May 15 primary

The media courthouse area urges voters to register by May 15. The Curran Building registration site will stay open until 9 p.m. Friday and Monday and until 4 p.m. Saturday. Residents who have moved or failed to vote in the past two years must register.

Police honor two Aston officers for creek rescue effort

MEDIA COURTHOUSE Two Aston policemen, Patrolmen Larry Hughes and William Bruno, were honored for a daring 20 minute ice water rescue attempt after a car plunged into a creek last month. The two teenagers, Kevin Connor and Lawrence Duffy, did not survive. A separate Chester incident saw a 17 year old shot in the knee in Lampkin Village amid gang clashes.

Middletown Woman Named to DELCORA Term

Middletown resident Helen Lank has been appointed to the Delaware County Regional Water Quality Control Authority for a five year term replacing Robert V. Micocci. Lank also serves on the Middletown Sewer Authority.

Gunga Din found guilty of Main Line home robbery

Carl Smith of Bryn Mawr convicted by a jury of 11 women and one man for breaking into a Haverford Township home on November 18 and holding a family at gunpoint for about an hour. A jacket bearing the nickname Gunga Din tied him to the crime. Smith testified his two year old son found the jacket and dragged it home. Defense argued mistaken identity citing unreliable eyewitness identification and voice as distinctive as a fingerprint.
