Plane crash near Tinicum prompts Coast Guard search

A twin engine Piper Seneca went down near Tinicum Island after losing radio contact with Philadelphia International Airport. Debris including a seat cushion and manuals was found as Coast Guard rescue teams and local agencies conducted an intensive river search. The flight was en route from Newark to Philadelphia when the crash occurred around 4:40 a.m. Four boats remained on scene with Chester and Tinicum fire departments assisting in the search.
