Horton joins AmeriCorps NCCC volunteer program in Maryland

Breast cancer awareness ceremony planned in mayor's office
A Breast Cancer Awareness Day ceremony sponsored by the Val Verde Unit of the American Cancer Society will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the mayor's office at city hall. Mayor Dora G. Acala and other officials will attend as the public is invited. The event designates Oct 1 as Breast Cancer Awareness Day in Del Rio and Val Verde County, part of October Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Wreaths will be displayed in county courthouses and city halls across Texas. About 2,600 Texas women will die of breast cancer this year and 13,100 will be diagnosed. Though most cases occur in women 50 or older, all ages are at risk. African American women have the highest mortality rate.
