Val Verde County commissioners court will discuss adopting the proposed budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year after a public hearing. A special session starts at 9 a.m. in the second floor courtroom of the Val Verde County Courthouse at 300 Pecan St with salaries and allowances for elected officials on the agenda at 10 a.m.
The Texas Forest Service says Bastrop County wildfires are 95 percent contained as weekend rain and cooler air aid firefighting. The blazes started during Labor Day weekend, scorched over 34 000 acres, forced evacuations, and destroyed hundreds of homes killing two people. Actor Jack Black visited Bastrop to meet families and support recovery, joined by director Richard Linklater whose Bastrop home was damaged.
