Del Rio to mark Sept 11 with siren tests and moments of silence
Del Rio Fire and Rescue will sound emergency sirens for one minute at 9:28 and 9:40 a.m. Wednesday to mark the World Trade Center towers collapse. At 10:36 a.m. H-E-B stores across South Texas will observe a moment of silence to honor victims and heroes. Ram Country will give away 5,000 free car decals starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Del Rio police recover shelter items in two burglaries
Del Rio police recovered 30 to 40 percent of items stolen from the Val Verde County Emergency Children’s Shelter after a residence search, while questioning several suspects. Missing items include four computers and a television. Shelter plans to reopen Oct 1 depend on state licensing inspection.

Del Rio Border Federal Credit Union sponsored a 250 word Patriotism contest for 12 to 17 year olds. Winners include Emilio Soto first $100, Nick O'Brien second $75, Michael Cantu third $50, plus three runners up Rozlyn Tuten Jennifer Rhinesmith Sara P. who each receive $25. Awards at 6 30 p.m. before Sept 11 ceremonies at the Del Rio Civic Center Pecan Ballroom with Rep Pete P Gallego present. A patriotic worship service followed at 7 p.m. at the same city venue with Pastor Bob Lockhart delivering In God We Trust theme. Citizens urged to display the American flag.
