Wrong-way crash toll corrected to six in Houston area
A head-on collision on a freeway northwest of Houston resulted in six deaths, not seven as initially reported. Reginald Dwayne Mayes, 24, drove the wrong way into a sport utility vehicle with a group including three adult women, two children, and an infant. One identified woman, Alicia Ramirez, 23, was later clarified as not among the confirmed dead.

Three killed in tower collapse near Huntsville Alabama
A television tower collapse in Huntsville caused three deaths among workers installing digital cable gear atop the antennae. Police identified the victims as Charles Pace Bryan Burkhardt and J C Dela Lama, all above the 700 foot level as the structure buckled and fell. The incident is being investigated as an industrial accident and SpectraSite Communications pledged support for the families.

Bullish attitude landsman in trouble court orders four years probation
Abel Biscaino, 19, pleaded no contest to two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for using his pit bull named Killer to threaten Del Rio police officers and an off duty federal agent. The court placed him on four years probation, ordered community service, and imposed a fine. The incidents occurred Sept. 17 2001 at Moore Park.

More state troopers hit the highways
AUSTIN 160 additional Texas troopers will graduate from the DPS Training Academy in Austin and join 170 new positions created by the Legislature. State Sen. Return of U S Air Force Airman Bridges Family Ties
Jeremy Fernandez 22 returned to Del Rio for a family reunion after coming stateside from Iraq in May. He is a cargo and transportation specialist with KC-10 missions stationed at McGuire AFB New Jersey. In Iraq he rode with Green Beret units aboard a Chinook during early Baghdad airport landings. He will report back to McGuire on September 10.
