The blaze burned dry brush cane and trees with no nearby hydrants complicating water supply. Fire crews fought to stop flames that jumped to a nearby structure.
Patrick Glenn Bordelon, 52, faces three counts of attempted murder and related charges for a June 29 1999 shooting of Ivan Mendez-Sepulveda a Ciudad Acuna Mexico resident near Vega Verde along the Rio Grande. The Dec 4 state district court trial follows a county grand jury indictment filed in August 1999. A Vega Verde residents group led by Tommy Vick pressed back against the charges arguing Bordelon acted to protect property amid riverfront crime fears.
