Vega Verde Road Residents Protest 911 Name Change

Three residents from the Vega area near Del Rio object to renaming Vega Verde Road to Cienegas Road. They fear confusion as maps show the new name, while locals have long used Vega Verde Road and learned addresses via Rio Vista Drive origins.

Second international bridge still far off

Del Rio's 2005 Economic Outlook Forum showcased cross border debate on a second international bridge and a third port of entry. Mexican engineers Sergio Cardenas Acunia, Sergio Botellas Cardenas, and Noe Garcia Riojas outlined plans for road and rail corridors, an airport, a railroad bridge near the airport site, and a ramp from the current bridge to ease truck traffic and congestion, with planning approved in 2003 and location chosen west of the existing span.

Fiesta de Amistad Parade winds through South Main with color

The 2004 Fiesta de Amistad Parade captivated Ogden Street to Nicholson Street with more than 75 entries marching to Mexico to show amistad. Floats carried young beauty royalty while spectators cheered uniforms, bands, musicians and clowns along Main Street.
