Today expect sunny skies and a high in the upper 70s with a northerly wind of 15 to 20 mph. Tonight clear with lows in the low mid 40s and light northerly winds. Tuesday brings more sun and a mid 70s high with winds steady around 10 mph.
The Labor Department reports a 0.5 percent rise in the Producer Price Index last month led by gasoline, new cars and tobacco. It marks the strongest monthly move this year and adds pressure on markets already jittery over inflation.
Del Rio area groups announce meetings and events including Brown Plaza Association at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Garfield PTO at 7 p.m., and various club gatherings. Fundraisers, screenings, reunions, and open houses planned across local schools, libraries, churches, and civic groups with contact numbers provided for sign ups and attendance.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Kappa Omega chapter met September 22 at Kay Qualia's home with 56 members present. After a short business session, members played musical chairs to mingle new and old members. Hostesses were Glenda Overfelt Debbie Bailey Ann Ozuna Patty McNamara Kay Qualia and Pam Smith. The next meeting is October 20 at 4 PM in the Del Rio Bank and Trust directors' room.
Victor Rodriguez and Jere mias Guadarrama completed 12 weeks of basic training at San Diego. They joined 41,000 new Marines this year and endured 5 a.m. runs, drills, and field exercises culminating in the Marine Corps Emblem ceremony. Seaman Melissa S. Slayton finished eight weeks at Great Lakes, learning naval customs, safety, and core values. She is a 1997 Comstock High School graduate and will join 55,000 new Navy personnel this year.
Ronnie Montgomery 60 of Del Rio died Friday in San Antonio. Born November 2, 1936 in Hobbs New Mexico. Funeral services set for Tuesday at 10 30 am at First Baptist Church with burial at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation until 9 tonight at Cox chapel. Funeral arrangements by G W Cox Memorial Funeral Home 114 Fletcher Drive.
