Water plan OK'd despite city request
Val Verde County Commissioners Court unanimously approved the final draft creating a county groundwater conservation district despite City Attorney David Sorola's request to postpone. County Judge Mike Fernandez said the bill will go to the Texas Legislature with or without city agreement, as planning board members Beau Nettleton and Jerry Simpton urged protection for the county water needs for today and at least 100 years, while Simpton warned against unlimited export. The plan still must pass several steps, including a resident vote, before becoming law, and Sorola and City Engineer Alejandro Garcia pressed for delay.
