Pilot walks from crash near Maverick County Airport
A U S Border Patrol OH-6 Cayuse helicopter carrying a pilot went down four miles northeast of Maverick County Airport around noon Tuesday. The pilot walked away with minor injuries and was treated at Val Verde Regional Medical Center as a precaution. The craft, used for observation and rescue, was on routine operations when it crashed.

Del Rio High School senior Heather Freeman, a 17 year old UIL Literary Criticism state champion with a perfect SAT score, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist. Nominated by Principal Dorothy Birkhead and among 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, she advances from 1.3 million junior entrants as she pursues eight thousand scholarships worth 32 million dollars. Freeman plans a rigorous senior year with six AP courses and a dual credit class while preparing her scholarship application.
