Rio Grande Flows To Gulf After Manmade Ditch Dig
Three Mexican men dug a 400 foot long ditch to relieve flooding at Boca Chica Beach sending Rio Grande water into the Gulf for the first time in almost a year. The channel formed about three feet wide and a few inches deep and drew mullet fingerlings toward the Gulf as parts of banks began to erode. Randall County authorities report up to 8400 unfiled cases and possible $2.5 million in fines from 2001. a grand jury probes losses in the Justice of the Peace office with efforts to recover funds ongoing.
