Guerra held in county jail on capital murder case

Guerra is accused of abducting Ms. Hamilton during a July 11 robbery at Blondies Steak-Out on South Main Street. Her nude body was found the same morning. autopsy showed strangulation. About $200 was missing from the lounge. Guerra, jailed on $200,000 bond, may see bond revised after a 90 day waiting period ends October 16. Trial date not set. defense and prosecution plan laboratory tests.

Val Verde County Receives Road Fund Allocation

State Treasurer Warren G. Harding announces that next week statewide distribution of 25.77 million dollars will go to 254 Texas counties from the Lateral Road Fund for construction and improvement of county roads. Val Verde County receives 92772.10 dollars from gasoline tax revenues.

Train decapitates man near Ogden and Garfield Avenue Y

An unidentified man believed to be Mexican, without ID, was decapitated Thursday night after jumping from a westbound freight train to elude Border Patrol agents. Precinct 4 JP Leon Best said the body, found east of the Avenue F overpass, was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m. The deceased, who appeared young, had no ID and was taken to Don's Funeral Chapels. If unclaimed, the county will bury him.

Warmer weekend forecast with scattered showers in South Texas

The National Weather Service expects partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures this afternoon. Tonight will be fair and mild with lows in the mid 60s and highs near 80, rising to upper 80s by Saturday. Extended South Texas outlook shows isolated showers Sunday with mostly warm days, while West Texas remains partly cloudy with cooler nights and highs mid 70s to near 90. Amistad and related water metrics show slight increases in elevation and storage, with downstream flow steady at 1,650 cfs.
