Hospice donation boosts Del Rio care program
The VWAMC Friends of Hospice at Val Verde Regional Medical Center donated 75,000 to fund operating costs for the hospice program in Del Rio. The group has given 500,000 since 1997, largely from Bargain Box sales at 110 W. Greenwood St, with 42,780 added at a September meeting and a 1,000 gift from Nick Khoury in honor of his parents.

State Rep. Pete P. Gallego hosted the annual Val Verde SAFE Kids luncheon in the Kennedy Room of the Del Rio Civic Center. He urged proper child safety seating, praised local volunteers led by Marjorie Mellett, and noted the program's long service since 1999 including thousands of car seats, helmets, swimming lessons, and water safety training. The event recognized volunteers Claudio Sotero and Lynn Masterson and discussed a booster seat resolution for children up to age eight.
