Health Conference Opens Here Today
Public health officials from across the state attend the two day Texas Public Health Association South Texas Conference at the Del Rio Civic Center. The program opens at 1 30 p m with remarks by Rio mayor Alfredo Gutierrez Jr and features talks on public health today reorganization of preventable diseases Bandera flood disaster and public health problems by Region 9 officials. Friday morning includes concurrent sessions on chronic diseases and environmental issues with topics on crippled children SSI programs Hansen's disease and state chest hospitals. A luncheon at 12 30 p m includes greetings from Association president Helen S Hill. Approximately 100 officials registered for the event.

Laughlin AFB Open House Friday Features Thunderbirds
Del Rio residents are invited to Laughlin Air Force Base Friday for an open house from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Thunderbirds led by Lt Col Dan Cherry will perform a 4:30 ground show and 5 p.m. takeoff with autographs until 6 p.m. Hang glider and model airplane demos run earlier, with aircraft displays including F-15 and A-10 along with C-130 KC-135 F-4 OV-10 and F-111.

Kinney Officials Back Tax Break for Brackettville
Kinney County Commissioners Court met in a special session to oppose a bill ending tax breaks for hunting lodges fishing camps and yachts. Commissioner David Luna said a telegram would be sent to Senators Tower and Benston to protect Brackettville’s economy. The group argued the town relies on hunting season income and many residents would move hunting closer if taxes rise. The next court meeting is scheduled for Friday Oct 13 at 9 a.m. in Brackettville.
