First Del Rio Baby Moses surrender case opens under law
Karen Gleason reports the first Del Rio infant surrendered under Texas Baby Moses law received temporary custody by a state agency. The unnamed mother left her newborn at Val Verde Regional Medical Center Sept 24 after birth at home, seeking anonymity and protection. Angela, born Sept 23 weighing 5 pounds 13 ounces, stayed 48 hours under observation. CPS has no info on relatives or caregivers.

Feast plans simmering for Del Rio event
Letty Gonzalez of H E B Food Store No 1 welcomed 21 leaders to an organizational meeting at the Del Rio Civic Center for Novembers Feast of Sharing. The event draws thousands with a community dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and pie. Last year 6500 attended. this year aims to feed hundreds more with donations and volunteers from local schools and groups. Homebound meals will also be provided, coordinated by Miri Sotelo. Cooks from San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District will work since 5 a m on Nov 16, with plans already in place for prep, service, and cleanup.

Absent Teacher Honored With Ice Cream Treat At Ruben Chavira
Donna Rae Galub Swanson, former Ruben Chavira Elementary music teacher and regional Texas Teacher of the Year finalist, was celebrated by Blue Bell with about 600 ice cream sandwiches for students and staff while she is away in Virginia. Principal Sally Zuniga-Barrera praised Swanson for her enthusiasm and care, noting the school and district still recognized her achievement.
