GUS GARCIA Staff Writer A city-wide Juneteenth celebration is planned for Saturday June 17 at Moore Park. Joni Jordan coordinator says the event hasn t been held in the city since the mid 20th century. The theme is A Celebration of Freedom and Diversity with a parade barbecue speakers music booths and more. The committee seeks donations to fund the celebration and invites community To join in the free barbecue and city effort. Juneteenth marks the ending of slavery with Union soldiers landing at Galveston on June 19 1865 led by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger.
