Val Verde County Republicans cast 148 ballots on the party runoff ballot outside the courthouse. Gary Gates won the local nomination for railroad commissioner with 76 votes, narrowly beating Wayne Christian who had 70. Statewide, Christian led the party for railroad commissioner, while Mary Lou Keel beat Ray Wireless 81 to 61 for Place 2 CR A judge and Scott Walker led Place 5 with 89 votes to Brent Webster's 48.
