Grenade Reno Detonated Safely Near Rio Grande
A hand grenade found along the Rio Grande southwest of Del Rio was safely detonated by a San Antonio bomb disposal team. Lt. Larry Pope of Val Verde County CID said the device appeared old and reactivated, likely dropped by someone or part of a smuggling incident in an area with frequent illegal crossings. The ATF coordinated with U S Army units from Ft. Sam Houston, who arrived late Monday night to handle the disposal. Pope noted local guns and patrols, saying he carries his weapon when working the river after dark.
