Briefs report Titan Arum, one of the world’s largest and stinkiest flowers, expected to bloom at California State University Fullerton Arboretum. The plant, native to Indonesia, blooms rarely in cultivation and emits a cadaverous odor to attract pollinators for about eight hours.
The board voted 6-0 to hire an independent auditor to review all expenditures by Superintendent Joseph Lopez during his tenure. The closed session focused on fuel, repairs, salary, travel, and out of state trips amid discussions of contract issues and future audit inclusion in local policy.
About 48 landowners packed a Val Verde meeting to oppose paving and widening of Paisano Lane Benita and Alma Drives. Del Rio Texas native Diana Ramirez a Marine private first class took part in the Naha Dragon Boat Race Festival in Okinawa Japan as part of the women s Devil Dogs team. Although her crew did not win she valued the cultural exchange and expressed interest in returning next year.
