U S Customs inspectors found 49 to 50 pounds of cocaine in a 1990 Buick Regal driven by Daniel Perez Gonzalez 25 of San Carlos Coahuila Mexico He is held without bond after Wednesday arrest on federal drug importation and possession charges The seizure valued at about 3 9 million led to his remand to Val Verde County Detention Center A second case involved Juan Bernardo Guillen Soto 29 and undeclared currency totaling 73 229 seized at the Hidalgo Port with four currency bundles strapped to his ankles plus over 8 000 in pockets Across 10 South Texas ports in seven days authorities seized 880 pounds marijuana 87 pounds cocaine 411 000 undeclared currency 19 federal fugitives and 11 stolen vehicles were recovered.

Killer Sells Letter Appears on Notorious Website
Val Verde County Lt. Larry Pope says killer Tommy Lynn Sells does not have internet access yet a letter titled I Don’t Want To Die Alone appeared on a site devoted to famous murderers. The letter hints at a death sentence and shows a nails crown drawing. The site owner published the correspondence after Sells allegedly refused to send more drawings.

Del Rio Star Jim Linzey Receives Honorary Doctorate
Jim Linzey, Del Rio star and chaplain, will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Kingsway Theological Seminary in Des Moines Iowa on May 24 2000. The recognition cites more than 15 years of full time ministry strong moral standing and a 200 page doctoral thesis on Spiritual Leadership. Linzey has served as a Quality Control Officer for religious programs at Laughlin AFB and as State Chaplain for the United States Reserve Officers Association California. He currently pastors 2190 soldiers with the 244th Quartermaster Battalion at Fort Lee Virginia and holds degrees from Vanguard University Fuller Theological Seminary.
