Oklahoma students at Intermediate Elementary School in Fort Gibson donated over 500 dollars toward a 500000 rescue truck named The Spirit of Oklahoma presented to New York City Fire Department outside Squad 18. The truck carries the names of 10 NYC emergency workers who aided after the 1995 Oklahoma bombing.
Lawmen executed a signed search warrant at 612 Esquivel Street with Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office CID, U S Customs, DEA, and Del Rio PD. Seized 17 ounces marijuana, 4.5 grams cocaine, and $680. Juan Miguel Gonzales, 20, arrested on felony counts of cocaine and marijuana possession. Case to be presented to state grand jury. Authorities praised interagency cooperation among local, federal, and police departments.
Marco Rios reports progress on a Resource Team visit from the Texas Historical Commission for downtown plans April 23 to 25. The team praised the visit and may return for a $10,000 to $20,000 follow up, while Firestone owner Ray Patuel discusses security and potential relocation.
Incumbent Joey Garcia won reelection to the Place VII school board seat on May 4 over Tom Sutherland. Garcia reported total campaign receipts of 2890 with 1895 from 50 or less offers and 1464.30 in expenditures on April 25. Contributions included 100 from Abe Casillas 100 from Juan Olivares Jr 500 from Linebarger and Associates 100 from Arturo DeLuna 50 from Rick Luna 50 from Rick Zuniga 45 from Ben Garcia and 50 from Larry Garza. Expenditures featured 68.47 refund for a lun cheon and 25 for campaign printing.
Laughlin LA base hosts Air Amistad 2002 on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Laughlin as a military installation. About 25 000 visitors expected with free admission and parking. Air show features three hours of aircraft performances starting at 10 30 a.m. including current fighters and village military aircraft culminating in a Thunderbirds aerobatic final. Security emphasized by Lt Col John S Crow, director of Air Amistad.
