Burglaries hit Del Rio area during Cinco de Mayo
A Del Rio woman and an Austin man reported losses of about 337 dollars from two burglary incidents. Juanita Arreola’s four wire wheel covers were stolen from cars on Main Street, valued at 225 dollars. Larry Coker reported a 100 dollar briefcase a 12 dollar calculator and papers taken from a car at La Siesta Motel. Police noted entry by forcing a window with a coat hanger tool. A minor bicycle accident occurred on Avenue F when Héliodor Martinez Galvan struck Raul Medrano on a southbound bike. Medrano sustained minor injuries but declined treatment.

Border Patrol Del Rio sector reports busy May in first six days
Chief Jack Richardson told the News Herald that Del Rio sector agents apprehended 2,150 illegal aliens in six days of May, more than double the 1980 county figure of 561 for the same period. He also noted 16 smugglers transporting 135 illegals have been caught this month versus 19 smugglers and 110 in the prior period.

Brackettville Woman Injured By Backing Car
A 69-year-old Kinney County woman, Bessie Brudette of Fort Clark Springs, sustained a fractured pelvis after slipping while trying to avoid a backing car near Brackettville Post Office around 5 p.m. Tuesday. She remained in guarded condition at Val Verde Memorial Hospital after treatment. The driver, Gloria Gonzalez, 23, of Brackettville, halted the vehicle before the woman fell. Police Chief Norman Hoden cited witnesses noting the incident occurred as the car backed out of a parking space.
