Del Rio Man Arrested in Wife Shooting Case
Del Rio police arrested Manuel Martinez Lomas after a Monday morning shooting of his wife Anna Maria Lomas. The 36-year-old allegedly shot her in the hand during an argument in their van near 101 B Rodriguez St. Mrs. Lomas was treated at Val Verde Memorial Hospital and released. a warrant had been issued for Lomas who turned himself in at the police station.

Suspicious suspects arrested in Del Rio marijuana case
Bill Trainer aged 18 of Edwards Street and Charles Baughman aged 19 of Avenue S were arrested by Val Verde County deputies for possession of marijuana after a report of suspicious behavior near Westlawn Cemetery. They were stopped at Third Street and Avenue A about 12 10 p m and released on five hundred dollar bonds. Trainers license was suspended and a club was found in their possession.

Shuttle fuel test resumes for Columbia after repairs
At Cape Canaveral, technicians began a critical liquid fueling test of the external tank aboard Columbia after correcting an electrical gas detector issue. Flow of liquid oxygen started around 11 am EST and hydrogen followed minutes later, with about two hours of fueling planned before inspection for insulation damage. If successful, a launch date could be set, possibly April 10, otherwise delays loom.

The National Weather Service predicts warm, mild days with partly cloudy skies for Del Rio through Thursday. Tonight near 50, highs in the mid-70s, southeast winds 10 to 15 mph, Tuesday high 73. Council OKs Bid Wait and Policy on Baseball Fields
The city council approved allowing financial organizations to bid and tabled items for study including a city policy on baseball field use and action on former city attorney Filemon Ortiz Jr. Humberto Garcia and Warren Burnett will meet again. Deaths James G. Shely Rancher and fiddler dies at 79
James Gerald Shely, 79, retired ranchman and trapper, died Tuesday at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. A Uvalde resident, he will lie in state before 10:30 a.m. Friday rites at Rushing- Estes-Knowles Funeral Home chapel in Uvalde, with Alvin Smith officiating. Burial follows at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Uvalde. Born October 26, 1901 in Bracketville, he was known as an old-time fiddle player and fiddle maker. Survivors include his wife Ruby Shely of Uvalde, four sisters Maude Parker, J.C. Williams, Mary Oma Perkins of Uvalde, Eva Bluhm of Lockhart, and numerous nephews.

Barn Fire Blazes After Camper Shell Short Near Farley Lane
