International Bridge rally seeks unity amid safety worries
Organizers Kim Canseco and Ramiro Guzman plan a Rally at the Border at Del Rio International Bridge from 3 to 6 pm on Saturday to form a human chain linking Del Rio and Ciudad Acuna. They met officials to discuss safety as The Bank and Trust sponsors tolls for the first 500 attendees and the parade permit. Shuttle transport from Del Rio Civic Center to UETA parking to bridge begins 1:30 pm.

Del Rio Police Chief Waylon Bullard announced Corporal Robert Guzman Jr as captain of the Enforcement Division succeeding Manny Herrera who retired last month. Guzman previously served as training coordinator and is a Del Rio native with Marine Corps service from 1989 to 1993.

Volunteers Clean San Felipe Creek Stretch In Del Rio Event
About 40 volunteers from City Church Texas Tech National Park Service Texas Parks and Wildlife Amistad National Recreation Area and Casa de la Cultura joined on March 13 to clean a mile of San Felipe Creek from Academy Street bridge to Lions Club Memorial Park using mesh bags and paddled kayaks to reach debris as De La Paz noted Rincon de Diablo area had the most litter.

The school board honored several business owners on Monday in the Businesses Standing Up For Public Schools program for supporting Del Rio students. Gatti's Pizza provided pizza parties and $5 gift cards for perfect attendance, while J's Barbers and Beauty Shop offered free haircuts at the Back to School Health Fair. Other participants included Brown Nissan Del Rio and Emily Ray Lions Club.
