Capt Dale Cook notes Thunderbird pilots need five to six years jet fighter experience and teamwork. Del Rio man Sam Dawson aged 36 remained in critical condition at Val Verde Memorial Hospital after losing control of his motorcycle on Hudson Drive near Nicholson Street. He struck a street sign and a telephone pole about 10 13 p m Sunday suffering head and internal injuries a broken right arm and a compound fracture of the right leg. Dawson was hospitalized and underwent surgery, hospital administrator said.
Justice of the Peace Felix Barrera performed five weddings from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday despite high winds. One ceremony occurred in High way Park on Highway 90 East. Couples included Keithi Alle and Kristine Lea Gottman, Roger Gale Brown and Carol Shaefer Ainsworth, Jimmy Lee Mercado and Rebecca Magdalina Briones, Luz Alfredo Alarcon and Telinda Belinda Villarreal, and Felix Villa and Elizabeth Sanchez at various locations in De Rio. Barrera noted the day set a personal record and that word of his services has spread.
The National Weather Service reports peak Del Rio winds at 39 mph at 9 05 am. Sunday's high reached 70 and overnight low 41. Forecast calls for sunny skies, mild days, and cool nights with upper 70s to near 90 in various regions.
Mier says Buena Salud lacks broad board representation and has written to Ms Flores with a copy to Menchaca. He notes HHS funding requires regional office approval of the project administrator and that Buena Salud has begun seeking a new director and accountant after firing Avenete Flores.
Mrs Jo T Garrett aged 86 died Sunday at 6 30 am in Community Hospital San Antonio. She was a sister of Mrs Tommie Lee of Del Rio and born September 30 1894. Graveside services Wednesday at 2 pm in Roselawn Cemetery San Antonio under Alamo Funeral Home supervision. Survivors include sister Tommie Lee Del Rio a Del Rio niece Joyce Brockwell and cousin Helen Perry with other nieces and nephews.
Mrs Manuela S Gutierrez 80 died Saturday in a Del Rio hospital and will be buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery after services at Sacred Heart Church Tuesday at 10 a.m. She was born April 10 1900 in Marathon Texas and lived at 305 East Ogden. Survived by seven daughters, one son, one sister, 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Mrs Guadalupe H Vazquez 62 died at 4 05 a m today in a Del Rio hospital. She lived at 1462 Bradbent St. The body is in state after 5 p m today at Don's Funeral Chapels Chapel A. Service tonight at 8 with Rev Sam Pizazo officiating. Rites Tuesday at 4 p m at El Principe de Paz United Methodist Church with burial at San Felipe Cemetery. Survivors: three sons Gilbert and Rodolfo Vazquez of Del Rio and Victor H Vazquez of San Antonio. a daughter Olga Rector of Del Rio. father Felix Herrera of Fort Stockton. sisters Felicitas Carrillo of San Antonio and Mary Calvillo of San Jose Calif.

Discovery 1981 program with Elizabeth Armijo, at NPS headquarters, 10 a.m. Tuesday, free. St James’ Church students posted Easter Seal sales posters around Plaza del Sal Mall to benefit Alpha Mu Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Carolyn Esparza of Lutheran Social Services will present on adoption Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Del Rio Bank and Trust Co directors’ room, noting collaboration with Val Verde Memorial Hospital.
City employees will get a five percent raise starting April 1 if the City Council approves the six month interim budget in special session. Budgets for gas, utility and general fund cover April 1 to Sept 30. Police department expansion and vehicle purchases for $50,000 are among planned changes.
VAL VERDE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL lists admitted and discharged patients across Friday Saturday and Sunday.
