Offices close at 5 p.m. City Secretary Jayne Douglas notes several filings for mayor, District III, At-Large Place A and B, and the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees. Election Day is May 6.

Hostages freed. Palczynski killed by police in Dundalk

Agents seize 1,922 pounds of marijuana upriver from Eagle Pass
Special to the News-Herald border patrol agents in the Del Rio Sector seized 1,922 pounds of marijuana on Monday March 20 during linewatch duties about 11 miles upriver from the Eagle Pass Port of Entry. 33 nylon feed bags hidden under bushes contained wrapped bundles of cannabis valued at $1,537,600 and turned over to the Multi-Agency Drug Task Force in Eagle Pass.

The Central and South Texas Minority Business Council announces its inaugural Building Bridges For The Future Alliance 2000 trade show on Thursday March 23 at the Omni San Antonio Hotel. More than 40 major corporations and public agencies will exhibit while over 3,000 MBEs from Austin to the Rio Grande Valley receive invitations. Norvell Butsey of Temple-Inland Financial Services and CSTMBC president says the event should open corporate doors and foster deals, networking, and growth for minority suppliers.
