Laughlin awards $3.5 million enlisted personnel quarters contract
Laughlin Air Force Base issued a $3.5 million contract for enlisted personnel quarters to Bruce Anderson Company Inc of Houston. Three hundred twelve personnel will be housed. Construction starts within five weeks after a notice to proceed, about two to three weeks after signing, with actual work beginning 14 to 21 days after the notice. Bruce Anderson also builds the new enlisted dining facility.

Del Rio Boy Struck by Car While Chasing Ball
An eight year old Del Rio boy, Alber Soria Levine, was treated for minor contusions and released from Val Verde Memorial Hospital after being struck by a vehicle driven by Gregorio Crowder Soto near his home at 34709 EB Third Ply around 5:20 p.m. Police said he was chasing a ball when it rolled into the street. Ambulance transported him to the hospital.

Knights of Columbus wrapped up a Texas Deaf Program fund raising weekend and awarded prizes to 13 participants at the Sunday St Patrick’s Day celebration in Moore Park. Stolen pickup prompts national alert in Del Rio
Del Rio police issued a national alert after a new pickup truck was reported stolen from American Truck and Auto at 1500 Ave F. Owner Steve Isenhour said thieves removed the $9,987 vehicle from the southeast side of the lot between Wednesday night and this morning. Investigator Donald J. Weaver said the method of removal is under investigation and ongoing.

Miss Concepcion R. Cardenas, 98, died Wednesday in a Pharr nursing home. The body will lie in state Friday after 4 p.m. in Chapel A at Don's Funeral Chapels, with rites Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and burial in San Felipe Cemetery. She was born September 3, 1892 in Mexico. a brother Francisco Cardenas of Del Rio and many nieces and nephews survive.

Grass fire near Spring Lake Estates battled by Del Rio units
Four men in six units from North Side Fire Station fought a grass fire at the end of Cantu Road near Spring Lake Estates for two hours and 20 minutes starting at 12 20 p m. The cause was listed as undetermined by the fire department.
