Val Verde County recorded 44 856 residents in Census 2000, a 15.8 percent rise from 1990 when the county population was 38 721. New pumper truck arrives for Del Rio Fire and Rescue
Del Rio Fire and Rescue received a new pumper on Feb. 17 to replace a flood loss from 1998. Engine 3 features a Detroit 40-330 hp diesel, Allison automatic, 750 gallon water capacity, two foam tanks, 1250 gpm pumping, a 5000-watt generator, and an extensive hose and tool complement. Testing was led by Engineer Daniel Young with six crew members, including Lt. Jimmy Crane and Capt. John Annipp, and emphasizes routine pump service testing conducted twice yearly and after major repairs.
