Jail standards push plan funding at Austin hearing
In a Feb. 26 letter to County Judge Sergio Gonzalez Jr., the commission requests all commissioners attend an April 2 Austin hearing. If jail plan funding is not deemed feasible, a remedial order could close or severely restrict occupancy of the Val Verde County Jail by May 7. The letter is signed by Roberto Viterna, executive director of the Commission on Jail Standards, with pretrial conferences planned after July 17 and trial to follow.

Police investigate thefts in Del Rio area
A Fort Worth man reported his car stolen from the Ramblin Rose Lounge parking lot at 10:20 p.m. Juan Salinas named the vehicle stolen to Del Rio police who filed it with NCIC. In separate incidents Janie Vallanueva and Josephine Whittle reported purses stolen from locations including Del Rio High School gym and Wagon Wheel Lounge, with cash and personal items taken.

Rites Held for Mrs Betty Dodson 59 in Local Church
Mrs Betty Dodson 59 died Monday in Val Verde Memorial Hospital after intensive care since Friday. Funeral rites were held at 11 am at First United Methodist Church with burial at Oak Lawn Memorial Park. Born in Del Rio April 20 1921 she earned a Baylor education degree. Survivors include son William Dale Dodson of Houston daughter Georgia Diane Dodson a DC attorney and brother Glenn Brown of Normandy Texas.

The yearlong caseload rose from 2,769 to 3,872 as openings include sewing machine operators, a probation office clerk, wait staff, a meat cutter apprentice and a Youth Conservation Camp director.
