Brackett High School Qualifies Two for State Cross-Exams
Brackett High School will send Carissa Eli de los Santos and Shena Meyer to the 2001 UIL State Cross-Examination Debate Meet, set for March 12-13 at The University of Texas in Austin after placing first at the district meet at Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde on Feb 10. UIL officials praise debate skills and critical thinking while noting the year’s topic on privacy. The Southwest Texas Junior College Faculty Association plans an expanded scholarship and Who's Who recognition program starting this spring to broaden equity among Uvalde Del Rio and Eagle Pass instructional sites.

Border Patrol town hall and fundraiser in Eagle Pass
The Eagle Pass Border Patrol Station will host a town hall on Wednesday March 7 at 6 pm in the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show barn. The Border Patrol Wives Club will hold a barbecue fundraiser at 5 pm to aid Maverick County 4-H. Kevin Brashear and Alfred Baron will be introduced as new leadership, with liaison agents present to answer rancher questions and gather input on rural border enforcement. Town halls in the Del Rio Sector run from Comstock to Carrizo Springs.

Artful life: Ginger McWilliams paints and fishes in Colorado
After cancer surgery in 1976 Ginger McWilliams shifted to painting and building miniature houses. She studied with Eleene Mercer in 1978 and paints oils from memory of Colorado mountains and fishing spots. She enjoys fishing, learning to fly fish, and recreating realistic waterfall scenes in her art.
