Judge Justice urged to order beds for Texas prisons
The Justice Department asks U S District Judge William Wayne Justice to mandate beds for 3 000 to 3 500 inmates sleeping on floors or ledges. It seeks by June 1 to end triple occupancy, cap cells at 60 square feet, and later limit to one inmate per 60 square feet by 1983 while improving staffing, firing, fire exits, legal access, and medical care in the Texas system.

Man burned in flash fire in Del Rio
Del Rio man Manuel Rizo was burned when gasoline fumes ignited during stove line cleaning this morning. He and a neighbor extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived. Rizo was treated for neck and arm burns at Val Verde Memorial Hospital and released.

T D Moore former Del Rio civil service employee died this morning at St Luke s Hospital Houston after open heart surgery. He married Marilyn Holman in 1944, she died in 1965, then married Eleanor Humphrey. John Robert Changala 63 year old retired ranchman died Saturday night in a Del Rio hospital after about a year of ill health. He lived at 106 Lilac Ane and funeral rites are set for Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Humphreys Doran Funeral Home chapel with burial in Westlawn Cemetery. Born August 2, 1917 in Stockton California, he moved to Del Rio in 1950 from Stockton and was a World War II veteran who flew B-29 missions in the South Pacific and helped bomb Tokyo.
