Derailment investigation pins slack action on SP train
Southern Pacific officials say slack action in the way a westbound train handled caused 13 freight cars to jump the track 14 miles east of Uvalde at 2 15 a m on Thursday. A flammable solid blew up amid the wreck but no injuries occurred and officials say smoke poses no health or environmental threat. Two other cars carried a cement additive and a corrosive material while the rest carried general merchandise.
