Del Rio Faces More Rain From Expectant Weather Update

Del Rio already soaked by rains since Saturday can expect further moisture this afternoon tonight and Wednesday as showers or thundershowers develop. Local forecast calls for continued unsettled conditions with periods of rain likely through midweek.

Post Office Open House Serves Coffee and Cookies

The Post Office will host an Open House on July 1 with coffee and cookies in the lobby from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon for visitors inspecting the facility announced by Postmaster Douglas McGraw.

Amistad elevation this morning reached 1057.15 feet, up 0.09 from Monday. Water depth at Amistad Dam stood at 157.15 feet, water storage at 936,301 acre feet and surface area at 23,088 acres, with downstream release steady at 1,100 second feet.

Rio Grande Rising as Laredo Floods After Cloudburst

Laredo residents cleared debris from flooded streets after a cloudburst dumped nearly five inches in an hour at the air base and up to eight inches at another gauge. Officials counted about 500 people fleeing homes, with water two feet deep entering some structures. The Rio Grande was set to crest at thirty feet, amid upstream rains, while the International Bridge remained safe and many streets reopened after waters subsided.

Miss Del Rio Pageant Lights Up Civic Center Tonight

Miss Del Rio pageant set for 8 p.m. at the Del Rio Civic Center to raise funds for the Little League with 10 contestants, judges and a penny ballot. Local organizations and sponsors linked to the event include Del Rio Bank and Trust Co and Rotary.

Del Rio Schools Award $69 000 in Contracts

Del Rio trustees awarded bids totaling $69 419.82 for roofing fencing carpeting and air conditioning across district buildings. Awards included Sam L Sadler Inc for $3 191 on Science Annex AC and Brinkley Lumber Co for $3 262.82 fencing Jr High, with Cody Wardlaw Gym roof repairs to Sam Sadler for $5 173 and carpeting in the Superintendent's Office to A W Carpet Co for $1 008. Memorial Elementary painting went to Frank Sanchez for $6 530.

Phony $20 Bills Still Appearing in Del Rio

Del Rio banks report five latest bogus $20 bills recovered and police note three earlier notes with the same serial number. Chamber of Commerce manager George Gregg cautions merchants to watch for unfamiliar paper feel and ink color differences, as some passes may have occurred at drive‑in windows. Serial numbers cited include G-063904690-C, K-06940539-A, K-07038895-B, K-18851694-B, and K-20298990-B.

Amistad Dam Design Honored by International Award

Maj. Gene F P Koisch presented an award for the Amistad Dam design at a ceremony in the Amistad Dam control tower. County Road Work Unified Plan Endorsed in Val Verde

The Val Verde County Commissioners Court approved a unified road work program naming J T Poochie Quigg as county superintendent and Henry Mills as commissioner in charge. The vote was 3 to 2 with Walter Gillis and Val Cadena opposing. County Judge Sergio Gonzalez supported the measure to break the tie and a plan to seek engineering help for Lake Amistad zoning was discussed. Clarence Bonner of Mullins Associates attended to outline planning services and potential steps for federal grant funding.
