FDA Approves Fourth AIDS Antiviral Stavudine Zerit
The FDA approved the sale and distribution of stavudine, the fourth antiviral for HIV, to be sold by Bristol-Myers Squibb as Zerit. Stavudine, a nucleoside analog also known as d4T, targets HIV replication by blocking an enzyme and is intended for patients intolerant or unbenefited by other antivirals, to be taken twice daily.
