VV County eyes grants for costly courthouse repairs
An Austin architect advised Val Verde County to pursue millions in grant funding to restore the County Court At Law Building and courthouse, with preliminary preservation by county staff. He estimated courthouse restoration at 2 to 3 million dollars, plus 215k to 400k for the County Court At Law Building, and higher for the jail and annex, totaling well above four million. Even with grants the county would cover at least 20 percent, and consider certificates of obligation, while weighing a minimal versus grandeur restoration approach.
