LBJ To Meet Kosygin Sunday in New Jersey Talks

President Johnson planned a Sunday summit with Soviet Premier Kosygin at Glassboro State College in New Jersey. Johnson, rested at his Johnson City ranch, and Kosygin aimed to resume discussions at 1:30 p.m. EDT while rejecting pressure for a joint communique and noting no hard agreements on Southeast Asia or disarmament.

Voting for Miss Little League leads with Peggy Eardley

Peggy Eardley tops the Miss Little League voting with 599 votes reported Saturday by director Betty Henderson. Cindy Hutto has 282, Debbie Pusley 278, Jan Sadowsky 108, and Jill Slaughter 100. the pageant will be presented July 8 at the Del Rio Civic Center during the Miss Del Rio night, with penny votes raising funds for Little League. Judy Faribault is the reigning Miss Little League.

Hussein Seeks Arab Initiative at U.N. Assembly

Jordan's King Hussein flew to New York for the U.N. General Assembly emergency debate on the Middle East crisis. He planned to press for a united Arab stance and stressed Palestinian refugee suffering while seeking Israeli withdrawal from Jerusalem and the West Bank. Hussein would be the second Middle East leader to speak at the session after Syria's Al-Atassi.

Burglaries Reported at Local Grocery Store

Burglars entered Hervey's Grocery by forcing the rear door with a tire tool on Friday night or Saturday morning. They stole seven cartons of cigarettes and an unspecified amount of beer steaks cheese and cold cuts. Police found several cigarette packs and a case of beer outside the door, suggesting an interruption by disturbance.

Funeral services for Miss Stephanie Rowland held in Del Rio

Funeral services for 17 year old Stephanie Stevie Rowland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Rowland Jr. of Del Rio, are set for 4 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery. Rowland, a lieutenant commander of the Del Rio Dolls, died after complications from a car crash in Fort Worth. Survivors include her parents, a brother Dennis, sisters Jan and Karl North, grandparents, a great grandmother, and multiple aunts and uncles.

The News Herald notes there is no current chamber manager. The former manager resigned last March. Bruce Hurley, president of the Chamber of Commerce, says they are interviewing prospects but have not chosen a successor yet.

Merediths Mississippi March Reaches Ambush Spot Again

James Meredith returns to the site of his 1966 ambush in Hernando and restarts his march through Mississippi. Police guard the route as Meredith, flanked by two whites and two Negroes, waves to supporters and declares the goal of freedom through elimination of fear political equality and economic opportunity. About 50 reporters and a small security detail cover the event.

Six Paratroopers Fall as 76 Die in Vietnam Ridge Battle

U S military reports say two lost platoons of the 173rd Airborne Brigade faced heavy North Vietnamese defense near the Cambodian Laos border. Seventy six Americans died, six survived and wounded, while 19 rescuers were hurt in attempts to reach the besieged troops. North Vietnamese casualties may reach 450, with bodies found stacked as shields. Meanwhile pilots flew 171 missions to strike Nam Dinh power plant and rail yards south of Hanoi.
