In New York the stock market opened lower with the Dow Jones average of 30 industrials retreating 6.88 points to 1,872.66 in the first hour. More stocks fell than rose by about 7 to 5 among NYSE listed issues amid broad selling.
Carmen and Dan Gonzalez celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with relatives in Del Rio. Carmen Marcos Gonzalez hails from Eagle Pass while Dan Gonzalez is from Monterrey Mexico. They wed in Eagle Pass and later settled in Del Rio. Kimberly Roper returns to Largo Florida after 10 days visiting her Del Rio relatives. American Legion Post 595 to meet Wednesday.
Around Town items announce a post meeting at the Post Building Aguirre and Bowie Streets with Dr. Roberto Cuellar urging fundraiser tickets. A Driver Education class at Del Rio High School runs 1 to 3 pm today. registration ends Tuesday. A bridal shower for Stephanie Stroud at First Presbyterian Church parlor 7 to 8 30 pm. Library director Janice Weber hosts a reception June 25 at 4 30 pm at Spring and Washington. Arturo Gonzalez, son of Arturo and Blanca Gonzalez, is nominated as law student representative to the Pattern Jury Charges committee of the State Bar of Texas.
About 40,000 vendors selling tacos religious objects and more will be removed from the Basilica of Guadalupe area in Mexico City. The surrounding fence will be replaced by gardens by year end with bus stops relocated. Officials say the hardest part is removing vendors who historically relocate after being moved.
13 scientists will fly to McMurdo Sound in August aboard ski planes for a NASA and university led project. They will deploy 33 balloons and instruments to probe the South Pole ozone depletion, a phenomenon linked to ultraviolet radiation risks and potential ecological impact.
