Federal heroin conspiracy indictments unfold in Del Rio Chicago actions
Three men named in a federal grand jury indictment admit conspiracy to import heroin from Mexico into the United States. Eliazar Herrera Vinagas Fernando Galindo Herrera and Gustavo Martinez Fragoso face two conspiracy counts and single counts of aiding and abetting illegal importation and possession for distribution. A fourth suspect Alfredo Alamo Ramirez remains in custody on a lesser bond. DEA and customs traced heroin from Del Rio Port of Entry to a Chicago address leading to raids that netted 40 pounds of high grade heroin with an estimated street value of $20 million. The defendants face up to 15 years in prison and fines up to $25,000 per count along with parole terms.

Del Rio Owes Million for Gas Bills in Escrow
Del Rio owes La Vaca Gathering Co and Coastal States Gas Corp 1.28 million dollars in unpaid gas bills through May 1977 dating back to January 1976. The funds sit in an interest bearing escrow earning 4 percent annually, with about 20 thousand dollars in interest last year. City officials expect a final settlement in three to six months, after which the city would pay the unpaid bills within about 30 days.
