A compiled list of 28 flowers is offered for a national blossom vote by FTC with ballots at Adams Flowers. Del Rio items include visits, a July 4 observance in Comstock, club meetings, senior citizens, a Catholic workshop, peach growing, library story hour, fundraisers, and local license plate lore about DEL RIO plates and cross state issues.
The City of Del Rio joined South Texas cities in a District Court suit over natural gas prices. City Attorney James Simmonds, with a San Antonio firm, seeks injunctions against Lo-Vaca and Coastal Gas Producing Co. and aims to withhold payments until contract terms are clarified, arguing the city is entitled to a judgment construing the contract and that Coastal States bears responsibility for overcharges. The June 8 council vote authorized the legal action as Lo-Vaca faces bankruptcy and major customers seek independent gas sources, with Uvalde noted in related reports.

Del Rio accuses Lo-Vaca of consistently overcharging under a 1973 gas contract assigned from Associated Oil and Gas. The city withholds February through May payments, alleging rates far above the agreed 7 cents per MCF and seeking a court-ordered injunction to stop further overcharges until contract rights are settled.
The federally funded nationwide flu immunization program, led by Dr. Abel Salas, aims to prevent a swine flu epidemic. Tom Neeley, volunteer county coordinator and former Laughlin AFB instructor pilot, will organize clinics at the Health Clinic and Val Verde Memorial Hospital with vaccines free of charge though some testing fees may apply. Vaccinations begin July 15 for seniors over 65 and chronically ill, with plans to widen to Sept. either for broader access. Dr. Roger Smythe will oversee statewide efforts, and residents are urged to participate to prevent a deadly outbreak.
Imagination turned Rockford Michigan’s Squires Street Square into a 34 shop complex attracting about 3,000 visitors daily. Since 1970 its historic themed outlets—from crafts to food—generate at least 500000 dollars a year for the town, with many owners converting hobbies into businesses and nonresidents opening new shops.
The Old Town Group of Action Del Rio will hold a meeting in the Council Hall of the Municipal Building at 8 p.m. Thursday. Gratz Myers Jr., group chairman, urges all involved to attend as progress reports from all ADK committees are heard and new projects are presented for discussion.
