The Diablo East boat ramp at Amistad Lake sees the start of marina services with an aquatic gas station, six days a week hours from 7 am to 7 pm except Wednesdays. New concessionaire Larry Volz plans slips, a dive shop, air tanks and rentals to expand offerings after a yearlong closure and local protests.
The Sunland Ski Team will again perform at Lake Amistad at 1 30 p m after Saturday's windy delay. Winds up to 21 mph disrupted the planned seven person pyramid and some stunts. Spectators may view from the visitors center area while parts of the area near the dam are closed noon to 4 p m for boating restrictions. Del Rican Pam Clark, a clown in the act, rode on a skier and engaged in a gun battle before being toppled by a blast and rescued by an Amistad Navy boat. Sponsors include Del Rio National Bank Del Rio Bank and Trust First Savings and Loan Amistad Savings and Loan Coors Distributors and the Amistad Navy with assistance from the National Parks Service and U S Coast Guard.
In Eagle Pass the losing Democratic candidate Salvador Rios asked a state district court for a writ of mandamus to force a recount of the June 7 sheriff election, alleging illegal actions by local party leaders. A prior recount was canceled for insufficient funds. a later bid was rejected after canvass timing concerns.
Mrs. Bernice Dungan returns from Waitsburg Washington with a color Mount St Helens eruption section published May 28. Crystal Seeger returns from Muscular Distrophy Camp in Mathis Texas after five days of riding crafts swimming and canoeing. National Park Service hosts a free Fishing Tips slide program at Lake Amistad Governor's Landing campground at 9 30 p m. The Thomson’s of Three Rivers visit Del Rio for 1940 high school reunion. Last swimming teachers aid class meets at Buena Vista pool Monday at 9 a m. Raffle for Michele DeLeon Babe Ruth Queen rescheduled for Monday June 28. Knights of Columbus sponsor Del Rio Independence Day Ball at the Civic Center on July 3. Ramiro Cervera with a 12 piece orchestra will perform first formal event, Maj. Gen. Charles G Cleveland to give address, followed by dancing and champagne toast at midnight. Proceeds aid trip plans to Dublin for St Patrick's Day.

Water surface area measured 58,37! acres, down 84 acres. Downstream flow remained unchanged at 4,2000 cubic feet per second.
