Laughlin Graduates 158th Pilot Class
Laughlin Air Force Base held the 158th Undergraduate Pilot Training graduation. Maj. Gen. Malcolm Ryan Jr. urged the new pilots to focus on team work and readiness, noting the large class size and the school as the world’s largest pilot training installation. Second Lieutenants Curtis L. Brown Jr. and Barry J. Sarnacki received top honors. Wing ceremony recognized 20 graduates including Charpillot Jr. whose father also earned wings in 1943.

Farmworkers protest seating at border governors meet
In Brownsville Texas a small group of farmworkers interrupted a meeting of New Mexico Arizona and Texas governors over seating. Guillermo Glenn of the Texas Farmworkers Union said only five seats were allotted. Governor Bruce Babbitt tried to mediate while farmworkers camped outside the site. The four hour session covered drug smuggling illegal aliens and energy with tensions between Babbitt and Clements surfacing.

Amistad Recreation Area prepared a welcome ceremony for the 10 millionth visitor on Saturday at 10 30 am at the National Park Service Headquarters on Highway 90 West. Ed ward C. Rodriguez Jr. will present a NPS certificate as Skipper Wood and the Red Carpet Committee greet the guest. The visitor will receive hotel accommodations 50 dollars spending money and other gifts from Del Rio merchants.
