Ecuador Accuses Fishing Firms of Provocations
Ecuador denounces American and Japanese fishing boats after gunboat seizures in its territorial waters. Four US and three Japanese vessels were seized and released unharmed amid disputes over 200 mile limits. Ecuador disputed claims of gunfire and noted some boats had permits while others were not fishing. Peru has also seized several American boats since January.

Police ruled that Dr. Hishiro Tamano a 41 year old Japanese mathematics professor at Texas Christian University died by self inflicted stab wounds in his home after locking himself in a bedroom with his 13 year old daughter present. The medical examiner cited hari kiri style suicide as the cause. Tamano had completed his third year as a professor at TCU and hoped to become a U.S. citizen.

Plane crashes near Atsugi base in Japan. one dead
A single engined American private plane crashed into a hillside about one mile north of Atsugi naval airbase on Saturday night. One occupant was killed and the other injured. Military officials said the aircraft belonged to the Iwakuni Base Aero Club in western Japan. Names of the victims were not released pending relatives’ notification.

Hope Brothers Mourning Deaths Reach Four Siblings
George Hope aged 58, brother of Bob Hope, died after a long illness in California. His passing follows the death of Ivor Hope, the elder brother, in Cleveland.
